The purpose of this article is to discuss three types of common Internet marketing scams to avoid.

Type #1 - Chain Letters

If you have been online for some time, you have likely seen these chain emails. They claim that all you need to do is send the email along plus money by mail to the names at the top of the list. After that, you add your name to the bottom.

This is a classic pyramid scheme, and most times the names in the chain emails are manipulated to make sure only the people at the top of the list make any money.

Type #2 - Pyramid Schemes

One of the popular Internet marketing scams is the pyramid scheme. As the name implies, it works like a pyramid where you start at the bottom and then climb up to the top over time.

You join the scheme by either by providing a service or paying money for those who are above you in the pyramid. When you climb up, you should be having people below you to do the work for you. However, this does not happen in real life.

That is because in order to benefit from such pyramid schemes, you would require millions of people to join in. Thus, you will lose your hard earned money.

Type #3 - Paid surveys

There are so-called paid surveys on the Internet that rewards you for completing surveys. However, many of these survey companies do not pay you in cash but in points.

When you have accumulated sufficient points, you could then exchange the points for goods. And that means you might have to accumulate your points until next Christmas.

This morning, I wrote this mail to a 28-year old young man working in Singapore. (I have removed his name for privacy reasons.)

And I just want to share this with you:

Hi,

I know you’re held up…
I know you’re busy.
I know you have to work!
I know, I know.

Why do I know?

26 years ago, I graduated from University.  Like you,
I worked my ass off for more than 10 years.  At least
I got a house, yes… but I never stopped paying the loan.

I got a car… but I never stopped paying the instalment.

And guess what?

I realize that I can’t stop working!!

I question myself:  Is this what life is all about?

Is it all about work?

And I thank GOD that I got into business… and
understood the power of PASSIVE income:

All I had to do is to put in my effort (just like in
a job) to build that foundation and create a
PASSIVE stream of income for myself.

And I’m so grateful that I made that decision 4
years ago.  It’s just like spending 4 years in
University…

It’s tough!

But it’s worth it. Let me explain.

After 4 years in university, I got a job
that paid me a 4-figure monthly income.

Now, after 4 years on my own, I got a
business that pays me also a 4-figure
monthly income.

That job I got 26 years ago earned me an
ACTIVE income. The moment I stop work,
my income stops!

Is that smart or what?

Now, I invested the same 4 years and I’ve
built myself a PASSIVE income.  Now, I’m
writing a email to you, surfing the net,
enjoying music… after waking up at 10 am,
still in my pyjamas… and still earning the
same 4-figure income.

The point is this:  There is a HUGE
DIFFERENCE between an active
income and a passive income.

I’ve told many people, I won’t take a
job that pays me $20,000!!

Am I boastful? Absolutely not!

Because I know… the moment they
retrench me, I’m gone!  The moment
I fall sick, I’m gone!  How am I going
to sustain my lifestyle, my car, my house,
my expenses, parents, … ?

I rather earn $2,000 passive income now
and grow it over time.

I don’t worry if I go on a business trip.
I don’t worry if I go on a holiday.
I don’t worry if I don’t feel like working
(because there’s no boss - my only
boss is the one in the mirror!)
I don’t worry…

All I do is FOCUS on building my
passive income day after day - and
soon, very soon, it will become a
5-figure PASSIVE INCOME!!

And then, 6-figure…

That’s where I’m heading to, in only
a matter of years!

20 years like me to realize that
